In 1992, a senior archivist at the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) walked out of his Moscow office carrying more than just a briefcase. Vasili Mitrokhin, a disillusioned KGB officer, had spent twelve years meticulously hand-copying thousands of classified documents.
