Roguelike Evolution V16e By Oni -
You are a Blob . You have one slot: "Cytoplasm." You cannot hold weapons. Turn 5: You find a wounded Bat . You kill it. Evolution prompt appears: "Absorb Echolocation? (Replaces Sight with Sonar)" You say yes. You are now blind to color but see through walls. Turn 20: A Troll smashes you. You survive with 2 HP. You flee into a water tile. The troll follows but cannot swim. You kill it via drowning. Evolution prompt: "Absorb Regeneration? (Requires removing Echolocation)" This is the new v16e trade-off system. You cannot have both. You drop sonar for regen. Turn 100: You are a Troll-Blob . You now have 3 slots: Regeneration, Thick Skin, Acid Spit. You are strong, but you missed the secret "Cave Fisher" evolution on floor 2. Why? Because v16e adds timed mutations. You only had 50 turns to absorb the Fisher’s web gland. You failed. Result: Death by Spider Queen on floor 8. “You evolved poorly.”
Perhaps the most controversial yet beloved change is the re-tuned difficulty curve. Oni adjusted the enemy spawn algorithm to avoid the infamous "Floor 14 death wall" (where caster enemies would stack burst damage). Instead, v16e introduces a gradual incline: floors 1-10 are gentler for build experimentation, floors 11-25 introduce synergy-checking encounters, and floors 26-40 are the "Oni Gauntlet"—a brutal sequence where you fight evolved versions of previous mini-bosses. Players have noted that while v16e feels fairer , it is actually more punishing at the endgame if you neglect defensive mutations. roguelike evolution v16e by oni
Pro tip: Back up your save file. V16e has a known bug where a "Temporal Paradox" evolution deletes your save if you alt-tab during the animation. You are a Blob
